一霊 (ichirei) "bir ruh (spirit)" + 四魂 (shikon) "dört ruh (soul)" + 三元 (sangen) "üç temel" + 八力 (hachiriki) "sekiz güç". Şintō inancında insanın ve evrenin yapısını oluşturan unsurlar. İnsanda bir ruh (ichirei, spirit) vardır ve bu ruh 4 şeyin toplamından (shikon, soul) oluşur. Bunlar yapının beşeri boyutundaki unsurlardır. Explanation:
一霊 (ichirei) "one spirit" + 四魂 (shikon) "four souls" + 三元 (sangen) "three basis" + 八力 (hachiriki) "eight powers". Elements that make up the structure of man and the universe in Shintō belief. There is a spirit (ichirei) in each human and this spirit consists of four souls (shikon). These are the elements of the human dimension of the building. There are 3 bases (sangen) that make up the universe (see sangen) and there are 8 forces that affect the universe. These 8 powers are in 4 opposite groups of 2 (see hachiriki).

Morihei Ueshiba emphasizes the importance of ichirei shikon sangen hachiriki; “I think that if you cannot understand Ichirei Shikon Sangen Hachiriki, breath (kokyu) and Aiki, then even if you practice Aikido the true power of Aikido will not come forth.” ("一霊四魂三元八力や呼吸、合気の理解なくして合気道を稽古しても合気道の本当の力は出てこないだろう.")
