Funakogi undō veya torifune no gyō olarak da bilinir. Torifune ifadesi, Japon mitolojisinin ilk yazılı metni olup MS 711-712'de derlenen Kojiki'de (古事記) geçer. Morito Suganuma'nın (菅沼守人, 1942 - ) şu röportajda belirttiğine göre mevzubahis egzersize sonradan funakogi undō denmeye başlamıştır.

Note:

Also called funakogi undō or torifune no gyō. The name torifune is attested in the oldest literary work of Japanese mythology, Kojiki (古事記), a text from 711-712 CE. Morito Suganuma (菅沼守人, 1942 - ) states in this interview that the name torifune is the original name of the exercise and the term funakogi undō appeared later.
